WebQuest
Woman of the year
Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion
The search is on! As members of the WOTY (Woman of the Year) Committee, our job is difficult. We must choose one woman to represent our organization this year. She must be someone who has contributed something meaningful to our society, and her legacy and image will become part of our logo for the next year.
You will work with a partner to research one woman, then prepare a document which will persuade the rest of the committee to adopt this woman and her image as our focus for the next year.
STEP ONE: You and your partner will need to use web materials (see the list below), as well as at least two other sources (books, magazines, audio/visual, interviews, etc) to research as much as you can about the woman you will focus on. Since our search committee is concerned primarily with the following areas, you will need to focus on them:
Short family history- when/where she was born, what her family is/was like, schooling, important events from childhood/young adulthood, etc.
Accomplishments- career choices, anyone who was an influence on her, why she is famous, etc.
Effects on other people- people/groups who have been influenced by this woman, etc.
STEP TWO: After researching and learning about this woman, you and your partner will create an instructional brochure that is made up of the following parts:
Introduction- explains purpose of the brochure, as well as introducing (with a 'hook') your subject
Family History- see above
Accomplishments- see above
Effects on other people- see above
Persuasive Conclusion- explains why this woman should be our Woman of the Year
Logo- design a new Woman of the Year logo including this woman's name, and a picture/photo or symbol that represents her or her accomplishments
Bibliography- Keep track of your resources, and use correct bibliography format to include your list in your brochure.
Remember, you need to use at least two books and other non-Web resources for your project as well as this list of good websites to help you learn as much as you can about your subject.

Your persuasive and informational brochure will be evaluated using the following rubric, so look at it carefully as you plan your final presentation. This will be part of your performance review, and will determine if you have earned a raise.
As a group, we will also use the rubrics to decide who should be our "Woman of the Year".
When you and your partner have completed this task, please answer the following questions on loose-leaf, and turn them in.
1. How well did the two of you cooperate to complete this project? Were research and reporting (designing the brochure) evenly split between you, or did one person complete MOST of the work?
2. Which brochure was the best, in your opinion? Give at least three reasons to support your opinion.
3. What would you do the next time you had to complete a similar assignment in order to feel less stressed or produce a better end product? Explain at least two areas in which you could improve, and tell specifically how you would do so.
