Columbus Spanish Immersion Academy was 'born' in the fall of 1987, in the Gladstone building of Columbus Public Schools.  Our philosophy centers around the immersion, or surrounding, of young children in a particular language and culture.  Our students begin hearing, then speaking Spanish from the minute they enter Kindergarten, where they are taught the Columbus Public curriculum entirely in Spanish.

REUNION FIESTA 2007

Our celebration was held  on Saturday, June 2nd, 2007, with opening ceremonies at 12:30.  Many former students, staff, and parents came out to join in our celebration, as well as folks from the Columbus City School District.

Activities included

            and much, much more

What a fantastic day!  Our school was packed to the rafters with people getting reacquainted with old friends, and it truly felt like a family reunion.  That's what we are at CSIA: Family!  Thanks to everyone who helped to make our event a success.

In September, students made lists of 20 things they love about our school.  Here is the seventh grade list!

Because of the sports (like soccer & basketball) at CSIA, we can stay physically fit, and we have good coaches.

Teachers give examples, post your work, and encourage us.

We get to learn about culture from different countries.

We are Kindergarten to eighth grade, which gives us more years of being with the friends that we’ve grown up with, and we don’t have to start over and find new friends.

We have good friends here, and we can watch each other grow.

Teachers work with kids at lunch and recess, and they’re strict.

We have the opportunity to learn another language in every grade.

We can grow up to have good jobs using Spanish.

Students can learn and excel in both languages.

It’s not really big, so we can get around on time.

We like knowing the teachers for so long because we don’t feel intimidated by them.

Community & closeness- it’s easy to make friends.

The students are grand, and every student is treated equally.
