8th grade Winter Haiku poems

Students worked to create haiku poems focused on a Winter theme.  They were inspired by sounds and pictures (thanks to Sra. Rodriguez), and then included some of these in their final Powerpoint slideshows.

Students' haiku presentations were assessed using the following rubric:

Haiku format

Poem fits 5-7-5 syllable pattern in all four stanzas and uses effective sensory details in Winter description.

Poem may not always fit pattern, but word choices show maturity.

Poem ofen does not fit pattern, or word choices are immature.

Background

Background does not detract from text or other graphics. Choice of background is consistent from card to card and is appropriate for the topic.

Use of Graphics

Sounds -planning
