6th grade
Recently, 6th graders studied personification- the writing strategy whereby non-living things or animals are given human characteristics. Then, they practiced writing their own stories using personification of everyday objects!
7th grade
This is the 20th year that Columbus Spanish Immersion Academy has been in existence, and we are celebrating! See the 7th grade list of 20 things they like about CSIA!
Book blurbs- students reviewed books, but first created short recommendations to 'tease' their book to someone else.
8th grade
Spooky stories have been the focus of the 8th graders in September and October. They've read Edgar Allen Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" (Try this site to read Poe's story: http://www.literature.org/authors/poe-edgar-allan/tell-tale-heart.html & this site to watch a short animated movie version: http://www.bremenonline.org/poe/ ). After reading, students completed acrostic poems summarizing the story.
Kids also responded to the Columbus Dispatch challenge to finish their 'spooky story'. Read the beginning of the story by clicking here: http://www.dispatch.com/news/now/now.php?story=dispatch/2006/09/13/20060913-H1-01.html , then read the 8th grade endings.
