Homework is assigned to students to reinforce what has been learned in class, to help prepare students for upcoming tests or projects, and to help students develop self-discipline, time-management skills, responsibility, and organizational skills. Because homework is a valuable tool in the educational process, it will be assigned to middle school students Monday through Thursday in each class, and occasionally on Friday. In addition, written and oral reports will be assigned each nine week grading period.

Tests and quizzes will be given periodically in each class. Students will usually be given a week’s notice to prepare for a test or a quiz, but need to be prepared daily. If a student is absent, he or she will need to be prepared to make up tests, quizzes, or projects in a timely manner.

The following guidelines should be followed when completing homework assignments:

  • Complete ALL assignments. If assignments are not turned in the morning they are due, students will sit in study center at intramural time.
  • Work is to be done neatly, on loose-leaf, not spiral, paper, and must have a correct heading.
  • If present, NO excuses are accepted for late assignments. All assignments, regardless of time passed (one day late or five days late) will be reduced in points if turned in late. NO late assignments will be accepted 3 days after the due date.
  • If absent, it is the student’s responsibility to check the Assignment Log in each teacher’s room for work missed. It is also the student’s responsibility to turn in these assignments (talk to a teacher if more than one day is required to make up work) when complete, as well as any other assignments due the day(s) absent. These are to be turned in with a completed "Excuse Slip" attached so they are not confused with late work.
  • IF A STUDENT CHOOSES NOT TO COMPLETE HIS OR HER HOMEWORK, THE STUDENT WILL RECEIVE A ZERO ON THAT ASSIGNMENT.

Please get into the habit of reviewing your child’s daily assignments and homework. To keep you and the student up to date on his/her grades and completed assignments, each teacher will be sending home a printout showing grades on all assignments thus far in the grading period, including tests, quizzes, projects, homework, class participation and the current total grade. That way, you and your student will be informed about progress on a regular basis. See "Evaluations" handout for specific dates.

Students have the opportunity to use lunch and recess time to study or complete homework or projects.

Students who have a D or an F in ANY subject, or students missing assignments may  be required to stay at study hall during recess time until improvement is shown on a future evaluation. In this way, teachers can help students having difficulty, and emphasize the importance of good study habits and skills.

We believe parents are key to a child’s education, so we encourage you to be involved in the process. We intend to create a partnership among teachers, students, and parents that will encourage the child to be successful in school.

Thank you for your support!  Middle school team
